Over 300 seniors enjoyed a free concert at the Milton & Betty Katz Jewish Community Center in Margate, on July 26th, courtesy of the Schultz-Hill Foundation. The concert, inspired by the award-winning movie, was entitled “The Real La La Land in Margate” and featured Dave Damiani of the 500 Club Series, Alex Frank from the film Jersey Boys, and Bijon Watson, the trumpet player in the film, La La Land.
With standards from Fly Me to the Moon and Pennies from Heaven to The Way You Look Tonight, Damiani and his band entertained in true ‘Rat Pack’ style. In addition to the swing, jazz and standards from the 500 Club era, they played a new song about Atlantic City called It’s Pure AC, which was written by Damiani. They also performed some contemporary favorites including tributes to the Beatles and George Benson. Throughout the concert, the audience tapped their feet, danced in their seats, and sang along to song refrains.
Among the audience members were residents of elder care and senior living communities including Caring, Inc. and Atlantic City Townehouse. The Schultz-Hill Foundation arranged for transportation of these residents to and from the concert.
The free concert was part of the 2017 Music & Memories Series by the Schultz-Hill Foundation, designed to bring the arts to seniors in the community. Schultz-Hill partnered with the Milton & Betty Katz Jewish Community Center for this concert.
The nonprofit 501(c)3 Schultz-Hill Foundation supports the arts, history and education throughout South Jersey. Programs include the Dina Scholarships, Senior Music Series, Summer music program with the Atlantic City Day Nursery and our Arts Outreach collaborative with the Bay Atlantic Symphony and Atlantic City Public Schools.
